Description

An oddity among the habanero relatives: instead of the familiar smooth lantern, Orange Blob sets squat, gnarled, deeply wrinkled pods that look more folded than grown. No two are quite alike, and the name is well earned. They ripen from dark green through pale green to a strong, glowing orange.

The flavour is what wins people over — fruity and unmistakably chinense, but rounder and sweeter than a typical habanero, without the earthy edge some of them carry. The heat sits squarely in habanero territory, so treat it with the respect that implies. Good fresh in salsas, very good in sauces, and the pods dry well.

The plants stay small, hairy and bushy, which makes this an easy one for a pot, a balcony or a bright windowsill. Give it plenty of light and it turns remarkably productive — you will be picking for weeks. Its parentage has never been established; it simply appeared among growers around 2014 and earned its place.
