NuMex Halloween

Description

Bred at New Mexico State University and released in 2007 as part of their holiday ornamental series — the same programme that gave us NuMex Valentine’s Day, Easter and Christmas. This is the Halloween one, and the name is earned honestly: the small bullet-shaped pods start out a deep black-purple and ripen to pumpkin orange, standing upright in a mass above the leaves.

The plant is a genuine dwarf, around 20 cm tall with dark green foliage, selected for a compact habit and a heavy set of upright fruit. It is perfect for a small pot, a windowsill or a table display, and takes about 90 days.

The pods are edible and carry some heat, but NMSU never measured the pungency — this was bred to be looked at rather than cooked with, and it is honest to say so. Grow it for the colour.

Each pack contains approximately 8–10 or more seeds per variety.
