Description

A Brazilian chinense named for its shape: small conical pods that sit upright in tight clusters and look, from a distance, like strawberries scattered through the foliage. Grown in full sun they take on a striking violet-purple cast while immature, then ripen to red — and because the clusters mature unevenly, one plant carries several colours at once.

The aroma is the full chinense perfume, and the heat is substantial without being a superhot ordeal. It is one of those varieties that earns its place twice over: genuinely good to cook with, and good enough to look at that people ask about it.

Happy in a pot, and the compact clustered habit makes it a rewarding subject for bonchi.
