Lucifer’s Dream Red

Description

Despite the name, this is not a superhot — it sits just above medium, in the range where a chili is genuinely useful rather than merely survivable. The pods are conical and pointed, around 7–8 cm long and 2–3 cm wide, with a slightly knobbly surface and enough room inside to stuff.

The flesh is crisp and fruity with a touch of sweetness, and the aroma is better than the heat level would lead you to expect. It is at its best in a wok, where a quick sear brings the fruit forward, and it is equally happy stuffed, sliced into salads or dried and milled.

The plant is bushy and well-behaved at 70–100 cm and carries a heavy crop, and it copes with a cooler summer better than most — an easy choice for an outdoor bed or an unheated greenhouse.
