Description

An organic jalapeño bred in Austria by ReinSaat — certified bioverita, meaning it was bred under organic conditions from start to finish, not simply grown organically. That is unusual for a chili and worth knowing if it matters to you.

The pods are around 7 cm, thick-fleshed and juicy, ripening from dark green to red. Both stages are good eaten raw. The heat is deliberately gentle — below a standard jalapeño — with what the breeder calls a fruity, pleasant sharpness rather than a bite.

One nice detail: as the pods reach full ripeness they develop long corky lines across the skin. In much of the world that corking is treated as a fault; here it is a mark of quality and of a properly ripened pod, and it is exactly what you want in a jalapeño destined for a pickle jar or an oil.

High-yielding and easy. Pickling, stuffing, grilling, salsas — everything a jalapeño is for, with the heat dialled down enough that everyone at the table can join in.
