Aji Mango
C. baccatum
The name is a promise and the pepper keeps it. Aji Mango is a South American baccatum with slim pods of about 5–7 cm ripening from green to a deep mango orange, and a flavour that really does lean tropical — sweet, fruity, citrus-bright and thoroughly aromatic.
Fresh it is lovely. Dried and milled it is something else again: the fruit concentrates and you end up with a powder that smells of ripe mango, which is not a thing most chilies can do. If you only make one chili powder a year, consider making it this one.
The heat is moderate and sits well behind the flavour. The plant is vigorous and productive, tall enough to want staking in a good season, and it copes with a range of conditions. Isolated seeds.
