Description

A wild-type Capsicum frutescens in the Tabasco mould, and every bit as tough. Slim pods of about 3 cm stand upright in clusters all over the bush, ripening pale green through yellow to red, so a plant in full swing carries all three colours at once.

The heat is high and it is blunt — a sharp, direct burn without much fruit behind it, the kind that cuts through a dish rather than flavouring it. That makes it a natural for pepper vinegar, for a simple fiery sauce, and for drying.

C. frutescens plants have a look all of their own: upright, dark green, glossy, almost too healthy to be real. This one wants a warm sunny spot and asks very little beyond that.
