Black Dracharys F4

Description

A striking newer cross, and the pods do something genuinely unusual: a glossy near-black purple skin over a peach-coloured interior, so cutting one open is a small surprise every time. The foliage is dark to match, which makes the whole plant an ornamental as much as a crop.

The heat is high — properly hot rather than superhot — and the plant is exceptionally prolific for its size, staying a manageable bushy 70–90 cm and cropping steadily.

The F4 in the name matters and we would rather you knew what it means: this is the fourth generation of a cross that is not finished. Plants will segregate — expect variation in pod colour, shape, size, heat and habit between siblings from the same packet, and note that the photograph shows one phenotype, not a guarantee. Grow several and select the one you like; that is the pleasure of an unfinished line. If you need uniformity, choose a stabilised variety instead.
