Description

A Brazilian baccatum that makes small round pods about the size of an olive — plump, thick-walled, juicy, and produced in quantity on a big spreading bush. They ripen green to red and are worth eating at both stages; the green pods already have flavour, which is unusual.

The aroma is the reason to grow baccatums at all, and this one has it in full: fruity, faintly sweet, and far more interesting than the heat alone would justify. It grinds into an excellent powder, works in salsas, and is good enough raw to go straight into a salad.

The plant is large and very productive — expect a broad canopy and a long picking season, and give it a generous container.
