Description

A small ornamental that is genuinely worth eating. The pods are blocky little things of about 5 cm, held upright in clusters above the foliage, and they ripen through yellow, orange, purple and red — with all four colours on the plant at the same time. It has been nicknamed the Christmas Tree pepper for exactly that reason.

They are completely sweet, with no heat at all, and thick-walled for their size — which is what makes them so good pickled whole, the use the name points at. Also fine raw in salads, in relishes, or simply eaten off the bush.

The plant is tiny and neat, 30–40 cm and about as wide, and it carries dozens of pods at once. One of the best choices for a windowsill, a small pot or an edging, and ready in around 65–75 days.
