Habanero Orange Apple

Description

Habanero Orange Apple is a genuine rarity. It circulates in a small circle of German seed shops and almost nowhere else, and it carries no published origin — no breeder, no country, no year on record. Part of the pleasure here is growing something almost nobody in your gardening circle will have.

The pods are small and rounded, around 3 cm, with the squat, apple-like outline the variety is named for. They ripen to a clear yellow-orange, and the heat is solidly habanero class — properly hot, but in the range you can cook with rather than a superhot that has to be rationed a drop at a time.

The plant stays bushy and reaches around 1.2 m in good conditions. Grow it as you would any habanero: warmth, sun and a long season. In a Nordic summer that means a greenhouse or a pot against a warm wall, and an early sowing.
