Description

Starfish comes from Brazil, the centre of things weird and wonderful in the chili world, and the plant itself is the first surprise. The leaves can grow up to 30 cm long, it grows fast, and it can grow very tall: 3–4 m is not uncommon at all. Height is no problem, though, as you can keep it short simply by pruning.

The pods are flattened and star-shaped, with several lobes spreading out like the arms of a starfish, and they ripen from green through orange to red. The white flowers have pretty yellow-green markings.

Then comes the taste. The edges of the pod are non-pungent, with a sweet, very strong and pleasant apple flavour, while the centre is something entirely different: it is hot. One of the most delicious and amazing peppers there is, wonderful fresh and in salads.
