Description

Jalapeño Multicolor is a jalapeño that refuses to stay green. The pods start out deep purple, lilac or creamy white and move through yellow and orange before finishing red, and since the plant sets fruit continuously you get the whole range side by side.

The pods are classic jalapeño in shape, thick-walled and blunt, and the plant stays fairly compact, which makes it a good choice for containers and smaller spaces. It is productive, and picking regularly keeps new flowers coming.

Heat sits in the familiar jalapeño range, mild to medium. The flavour shifts with the colour: the paler and purple stages are crisp and fresh, the ripe orange and red pods sweeter and fruitier. That makes it handy in the kitchen, from fresh slices and salsas to poppers, and mixed colours look great in a jar of pickled jalapeño rings.
