Description

Zebrange was bred in Belgium by Laurent Minet, who crossed a Christmas Bell, better known as Bishop’s Crown, with our Aji Fantasy. The cross was made at the Gembloux horticultural centre and worked on over several generations with a group of collectors, and I was happy to hear that one of our varieties sits in its background.

From the Bishop’s Crown side it gets the shape: wide, three-lobed pods of about 5–6 cm. From there it adds its own signature. The pods ripen from green through cream to orange, and as they mature they pick up red zebra stripes, so a ripe plant looks hand-painted.

The flavour is bright and fruity, with gentle sweetness. Heat is moderate. The plant is vigorous and bushy, around 1–1.2 m, and sets pods generously.

Great sliced fresh, in salsas and in sauces.

Each pack contains approximately 8–10 or more seeds per variety.
