Description

A Bolivian baccatum and an unusually easy one to live with. The pods are elongated, roughly 6 cm long and 2 cm wide, ripening green to red, with thick, crisp, juicy flesh — that texture is the variety’s signature and the thing every grower mentions first.

The flavour is sweet and fruity in the way good baccatums are, and the pods crunch rather than collapse, which makes them excellent raw as well as in salsas and sauces. They dry well too.

The plant stays low — often only half a metre tall — but it spreads wide and carries a heavy crop, so give it room and something to lean on rather than assuming a tidy upright bush. Very productive, and forgiving of a less-than-perfect season.
