Description

Habanero Tabaquite takes its name from Tabaquite, a farming district in central Trinidad. The pods are wrinkled and deeply folded, closer in shape to a Scotch bonnet than to a smooth habanero lantern, around 3–5 cm long, and they ripen from green to a sunny yellow.

The aroma is bright, citrusy and fruity, the kind that fills the kitchen as soon as you cut a pod. The heat is classic habanero: well up the scale, but short of the superhots. A natural choice for Caribbean-style pepper sauces, salsas and marinades.

Like other chinense, it needs a long, warm season. Sow early, give it warmth and light, and grow it in a roomy pot or a greenhouse in northern conditions.
